Due to a recent layoff*, I am in the market for a new software development related job.
My experience is in web development. Specifically I am interested in Ruby and/or Rails related work. I would also be really interested in doing iPhone/Cocoa development. Facebook app development would be fun as well. My strengths are in backend development (i.e. not UI). I also have a strong background in systems architecture and administration.
I have a few Rails applications of my own in production that you can take a look at, School’s Out and CampusWire. School’s Out gets millions of page views a month and can deliver hundreds of thousands of email and text message emergency school closing alerts.
I really want to work on a fun, challenging, and innovative project with great people. Being able to work on and contribute to open source software as part of the process would be a bonus. I am in San Antonio and would prefer to stay here. Working remote is not a problem for me.
Here is my resume, and here is some of my code.
If you need a developer like me, please feel free to email me: iwarshak@stripey.net
*My previous job at FiveRuns was great and I have nothing but great things to say about them. The economy is a fickle thing, what can you say?

You can read the article here.
(Sorry if this blog is turning into a self promotional piece. As soon as I have something insightful to write, I will.)

wikipedia is an online encyclopedia that can be edited by anyone. Literally, anyone can edit any page on wikipedia. wikipedia also happens to be one of my favorite sites on the webnets (write that term down). I can spend hours reading articles on…. well… pretty much anything.
So since anyone can edit a page, anyone can add in garbage. The neat thing is that most of the time people notice the inaccuracies and fix it. Changes are always logged, so you can view the history of any page. I remember reading an article one time about a professor who, as an experiment changed a few minor historical details about some historical events. Very small changes that you and I wouldn’t ever notice. Within hours, someone had made the proper corrections.
All of this is to say I have done my own wikipedia experiment. I have made a change in wikipedia that has not (but probably should be) challenged. It has been nearly a week now, and it is still there! To me (and probably 3 friends of mine), the change is hilarious. No one else probably cares.
For scientific integrity, I cannot tell you exactly which article I edited, since one of you jokers will just go an fix it, thus corrupting the experiement. I will give you a clue. If my wikipedia article goes uncorrected, then the terrorists have already won!
